what a week for mail.
baked oatmeal cookies and didn't bother turning on the heat this morning. going to the louvre this afternoon, instead of the park, or research. i need to go to the park more often. purple sweater, tea, the novel i'm reading made me cry on the métro. the art et geopolitique seminaire was too crowded and i felt self-conscious that i was sitting and a bunch of old people were standing. in my defense, they were late. in my defense, it implies both respect and the assumption of fragility to offer your chair. the speaker had created a camera carrying drone that functioned on eight rotors for stability. he took arial view shots of roman ruins in afganistan. i wasn't hugely impressed with the actual images, but the idea was interesting and his slideshow of the history of arial photography was awesome. exploding dirigibles and hot air balloonists with huge cameras, the encyclopedia of military arts. note to self: profit from the archives next weekend...because you don't have enough dusty boxes to open.
prof godelier is coming to speak to the sciences politiques students monday night. he's the name in french anthropology at the moment. he postulates grimly(?) that occidentalisation and modernization aren't synonyms. i have to read his book this weekend if i'm going to get anything out of this. thesis proposal and defense on monday.
